meet the artist

Sydney Hinson Bucca has been practicing art since she could hold a utensil to create. Now, a dedicated wife and mom of two, Sydney is still pursuing what she fell in love with as a child.

Sydney received a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and after teaching high school art for eight years, she chose to instead dedicate her time to raising her children and becoming a full-time artist.

When she’s not painting in her studio or throwing sparks at the shop where her husband runs Stateline Fabrication, she can be found in her favorite place—her backyard with her family, their two dogs, pot-bellied pig and chickens.

Artist Statement

A Believer, a lover of color, contrast and nature; you’ll find inspiration from all of this in my work. I am a colorful, abstract painter and carbon steel and scrap metal sculptor. My two main media are done completely opposite! My abstract paintings: totally colorful—the faces bold and authentically imperfect. My sculptures: left completely natural metal, left to rust or already rusted. Again, perfectly imperfect.

Fascinated by the joyful feeling bright colors and bold mark-making brings, those are constants you will find in my paintings. The South, where I am from, holds my heart. I love the warmth, weather and heart, slow pace and simplicity. You’ll find my metal work to be more folk artsy.

My creativity has always been a conduit of self-discovery and only recently have I been able to focus solely on my own work. Through this I have found I want one thing from my art—JOY! Joy for you, joy for me.
